06-07-2025 - From my WFPD consultant - It was the end of the shift, and an officer was completing a major accident report in the lounge of the police station. Because it was an accident with injuries, the officer could not use the small diagram block on the state accident report. Instead, a more detailed diagram on an 8 x 10" sheet of paper was required. Having completed the state accident report form and most of the diagram, the officer had to go to his car for something. He left the report on the table. The idea hit me suddenly, and I had to act fast. I scooped up the accident report, ran into the records section, made a copy of the report and diagram, ran back to the lounge, put the copy of the report and diagram on the table, purchased a cup of coffee from the vending machine, poured half of it in the sink, poured the other half on the accident report and diagram, and left the cup, on its side, on the table. I took a seat with other officers in the lounge. The officer came back into the lounge, saw the report, screamed various words in an unknown language, and began looking for someone to kill. I handed him the original report before he could pass out from anger. It took him several minutes to crack a smile in appreciation of a premium prank.

06-07-2025 - From my law enforcement consultant: It was the wheel deal! A man went to the police station to get a car out of impound that a family member had abandoned blocking an exit on the highway. He said he was told that he might need to replace a tire. He was informed that he would need 4 tires because they had been driven completely off the wheels. When that little shock wore off he was told that he would also need 4 new wheels because they had been driven down to the hubs. He was not happy.

06-07-2025 - 6:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday, and some local Amateur (ham) Radio Operators usually meet at Cracker Barrel at 8:00 AM for coffee and conversation. If you have questions about Amateur Radio, they have answers. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

06-06-2025 - 5:00 PM - I checked the 20-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band again, and it's still kind of flat. But that okay, as there is plenty of local activity on the scanner radio. You do have a scanner, don't you?

06-06-2025 - 4:00 PM - Looking around the 20-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band, I don't find much of interest. The Parks on the Air® stations that I hear are weak. Maybe the band will improve later. Why don't I switch to one or more of the other bands? First, 20 meters, though quiet at times, has everything I need. Trying to work the other bands actively will do nothing but keep me on the radio longer than I need to be on the radio! Ham Radio blasphemy, you say? Maybe. As I mentioned before, I have never wanted to work all states, continents, or whatever on all bands. That's a nice accomplishment, but one that holds no interest for me. I listen throughout the day, but usually in a casual "background noise" mode. Now, let me see what's happening on the CB Radio!

06-06-2025 - Take a look at the windows on the front side of the police station. They weren't always that narrow, but they became that way after one too many of the original large windows fell victim to slingshot-propelled ball bearings.

06-06-2025 - The worst on-the-air assault I ever witnessed came not from CB Radio as some might expect, but from Amateur (ham) Radio. It happened in 2017 on the simplex frequency of 146.520 MHz. For reasons unknown, one operator went "up one side and down the other" of another operator with F-bombs, N-bombs, SOBs, and threats of physical assault. I recorded it all but I'll keep it to myself out of respect for the victim. What got the suspect arrested was the threatening phone call he made to the victim. No need for FCC intervention. That was a state penal code violation. The suspect died not long after the incident. I believe an illness affected his brain.

06-06-2025 - From my corrections consultant - It was visitation time. One offender's time was up, and he told his young visitor - around five or six years old - that it was time for him to go back home. The kid says, "And it's time for you to go back to jail!" Light laughter erupted in the room. The offender, with a slightly embarrassed look, says "Yes, and it's time for you to stay out of jail!"

06-06-2025 - The year was 1988. The location was the hangar at the Grandfield Airport housing the American Parachuting operation. It was a Sunday morning, and the Grandfield Chief of Police dropped by for a visit. His young daughter was with him. Not long into the visit, the daughter spotted one of the cats belonging to the business owners. She got the Chief's attention and said, "Look, Daddy, a target." With a somewhat embarrassed look, the Chief answered: "No, honey, they like their cats out here!" It was all I could do not to bust up laughing. There was no doubt in my mind what they had been doing.

06-06-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Friday, and I wonder if Wichita Falls will ever be known for anything notable. Tyler is the Rose Capital of Texas. Floydada is the Pumpkin Capital of Texas. Breckenridge is the Mural Capital, Burnet is the Bluebonnet Capital, and the list goes on. But what about Wichita Falls? Blue Skies and Golden Opportunities? We can do better. I might be talking about this issue down the road. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!
