About Wichita Falls Pundit

My Hobby Radio Station

THE WICHITA FALLS PUNDIT JOURNAL is compiled in Wichita Falls, Texas by, you guessed it, the Wichita Falls Pundit. When it comes to Wichita Falls, I call 'em like I see 'em. I can issue a pat on the back, or a kick in the pants. Various consultants also contribute content. All locations are in Wichita Falls, Texas unless otherwise noted. Beginning 06-30-2025, posts are in chronological order. Earlier posts are in reverse chronological order. I have no social media accounts.

The Wichita Falls area has active groups of Amateur (ham) Radio and CB Radio Operators. The "hams" have weekly scheduled on-the-air meetings and informal chats throughout the week. A group of CB Radio Operators usually meet daily at 5:30 PM on Channel 23. When the cell phone towers go silent, and the Internet goes dark, and everyone is staring at their cellular paperweights, these Hobby Radio Operators, requiring no infrastructure, will still be communicating. I do not represent any group.

I've been a CB Radio operator since 1964. I've held an Amateur (ham) Radio license since 1982 and an Amateur Extra license since 1983. I engage in various aspects of the various radio services on a random basis. It might be CB Radio today, or this week, and Ham Radio tomorrow, or next week. Then there's the Family Radio Service, General Mobile Radio Service, the Multi-Use Radio Service, Radio Scanning, and Shortwave Listening. Again, random, except that I usually have Morse code running in the background. That's my music. These days, I'm in the listening mode 99% of the time.

I'm not a fan of schedules of any type when it comes to radio. At 73, I'm too young to be tied to a clock. I need to rip and run across the bands and across town. A radio "contact" occurs between my antenna and your antenna. Simplex. Direct. Repeaters are absolutely necessary for certain operations, but I'm never involved in those operations. Other than writing this journal, I don't use keyboards or the Internet in my radio operations. No amplifiers, either. I like to say I'm an analog Boomer in a digital world.

This simple, static, script-free website has one function: to put my text on your screen. Content Management Systems (CMS), such as WordPress, are bloated overkill for my needs. Because this site is static and script-free, comments are not possible. Therefore, all questions are rhetorical. I'm not against comments. I simply refuse to involve databases or scripts on my site. Also, I won't send visitors to some off-world, third-party comment hosting site. Since I won't yield on these items, comments are not possible. I do not offer any technical or how-to information. I'm here to have fun.

In addition to radio content, I post random stuff I've seen, done, or thought about doing in my 70+ years on Planet Earth. The statute of limitations has expired on most of my antics. Cookies are not used. Personal information is not collected. This is not a directory site or stepping stone to other websites.

All outbound links on this site are Amazon Affiliate Links. If you make a purchase through my links, I will earn a commission. You don't have to buy radio equipment, any purchase helps!

What does it all mean? It means my playbook might be a little different from yours. You do what makes you happy. Some people know me, while others don't. I like a little mystery, don't you?
