...Potent Nor'easter leads to blizzard conditions and impossible travel along the I-95 corridor from north of Baltimore to Boston...

...Wet weather returns to the Pacific Northwest and North-Central California...

Much of our attention this morning is focused over the Eastern Seaboard ahead of a potent Nor'easter set to spin-up along the Mid-Atlantic coastline today. As of this writing, nearly 54 million people in the path of this storm reside within a Winter Storm or Blizzard Warning from the Central Appalachians to Coastal Maine. As the low center begins to explosively develop late afternoon and tonight, light to moderate snowfall this morning is expected to rapidly increase in coverage and intensity along the I-95 corridor north of Washington D.C., where snowfall rates will eclipse 2-3" per hour at times. When combined with strong wind gusts upwards of 40-70 mph, blizzard conditions will quickly materialize from the Eastern Shore of Maryland through southeastern New England, making travel extremely treacherous in these areas. As the storm reaches peak intensity tomorrow morning, very heavy blowing snow will extend from Philadelphia to Boston, although by tomorrow afternoon conditions should begin to improve as the storm exits as quickly as it developed. By Monday evening, storm total snowfall of foot or two can be expected from Coastal New Jersey through Boston.

On the opposite coastline, wet weather will return to the Pacific Northwest and North-Central California as a series of low-pressure systems and associated atmospheric rivers impact the coast. The strongest of these atmospheric rivers is expected to arrive along the West Coast Monday, which could drive isolated instances of flash flooding owing to the saturated soil in the region from previous heavy rainfall. Rain will expand in coverage linger offshore
