Out-of-the-Shack Hobby Radio Activities for Wichita Falls
BORED? Get out of the shack and make a true portable simplex radio contact from some of the locations shown below, using CB Radio, Ham Radio, FRS, GMRS, or MURS. By "true portable," I mean not sitting in your vehicle using the vehicle as a power source. Give that "go box" you put together some exercise!
LOCATION IDEAS:
- atop Mount Murphy in Lake Wichita Park
- atop or near the World's Littlest Skyscraper
- at the Crepe Myrtle sculpture in Harold Jones Park
- at the River Bend Nature Center
- at the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum
- at the waterfalls
- at the Lucy Park bridge (who was Lucy, by the way?)
- in any Wichita Falls city park
- at any horse or other sculpture in town
- at a school or other public demonstration of Amateur (ham) Radio
- in front of the James V. Allred Unit prison
- from a gun tower at the James V. Allred Unit prison
- aeronautical mobile - balloon, parachute, airplane - over Wichita Falls
- inside or outside any locally-owned eatery - no chains!
- maritime mobile on any area lake. Hurry while they're still wet!
- at a campsite or RV park
- any other interesting Wichita Falls area location
Wichita Falls Amateur (ham) Radio Operators, how about a "special event" station atop the World's Littlest Skyscraper? If a commercial radio station can throw stuff off and watch it smash on the ground, certainly a Ham Radio operation would be allowed. Someone make it happen!
