06-14-2026 - 5:45 AM - Good Morning! It’s Sunday, and the Wichita Amateur Radio Society will conduct its weekly informal net tonight at 8:00 PM on the club’s 147.140 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio. We had, or still have, a 50% chance of rain today. Looking at the weather radar, I see a large group of storms moving east and crossing I-35. Did we miss our chance, or is more on the way? My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 11:00 AM - I decided to mow the yard this morning, just in case we got some rain. After a shower, I'll take the rest of the day off. Tomorrow, too!
--- 12:30 PM - It was 1969. My high school summer job was running the candy vending machine route for Houston Vending Company on Sheppard Air Force Base. So, there I was, driving on one of Sheppard's main streets, daydreaming about who knows what. A short but heavy rain had just ended. A large puddle near the curb had formed, and I was headed straight for it. The rest of the story.
--- 2:50 PM - I hear short bursts of audio from the Amateur (ham) Radio repeater (437.800 MHz) aboard the International Space Station. They must be at the edge of the "radio footprint", and I have no idea which way they're headed. Most likely "away" since I didn't hear any further communications.
--- 3:00 PM - Are you old enough to remember Draughon's Business College at 905 9th Street in Wichita Falls? Classes featured were IBM Key Punch, Office Machines, Clerk Typist, Secretarial and Bookkeeping, Accounting d Data Processing, Drafting, and Civil Service Training Courses.
---- 5:20 PM - It was 40 years ago, and I was out for a pre-sunrise walk. A twin-engine airplane of some manufacture was passing overhead. I gave it three or four bursts from my powerful Streamlight flashlight. The pilot answered by cycling his navigation lights off and on. What does this all mean? Not a damn thing. It just popped into my mind, that's all.
--- 5:30 PM - I had a "flashback" of one of the two times I attended a meeting—in 1968 or 1969—of one of our local CB Radio clubs. It was either the Faith City Five Watters or the Red River Valley CB Radio Club. I can't remember which. The meeting was on the 3rd floor of the Wichita County Courthouse, in one of the courtrooms. I was a junior in high school. I was a guest of Eddie French, a classmate. You old people might remember Eddie from his popular band that played at the Little Brothers club. After the meeting, we descended to the first floor via one of the elevators. Eddie, a "stocky" guy, started jumping up and down in the elevator. I'm sure it shook the building. When the door opened, a Wichita County deputy was standing there with a puzzled look on his face. He looked at me, then Eddie. I could tell he thought that whatever happened, Eddie did it. He didn't say anything as we made tracks for the exit door. Eddie was an avid CB Radio operator and later became an Amateur (ham) Radio operator. He died in 1995. He still owes me $16 for a CB Radio antenna I sold him in 1970.--- 6:15 PM - The Local Group is up and running on CB Radio Channel 23, and I'm getting ready to watch the Texas Rangers take on the Boston Red Sox. I think I can handle both.
--- 7:00 PM – Is it just Wichita Falls, or do TV news presenters everywhere use the tag team method? You know, one presenter reads a line, then hands it off to the other, who reads a line. Sometimes it goes back to the first one to say a few more words before going to the video. Stop it! And, while I'm on the subject, I'm beginning to think news media people have a "hotkey" on their computer that spits out the words alleged and allegedly. Come on, folks, be creative and occasionally try alternate ways to express yourself.
--- 8:00 PM - The Wichita Amateur Radio Society is on the air on 147.140 MHz with their weekly informal net. Tune in or join in. I'm still watching the Rangers - 6 to 2 over the Red Sox in the top of the 5th inning.
