06-19-2026 - 4:25 AM - Good Morning! It’s Friday, and we had a nice, drenching storm pass through town just after 4:00 AM. Looking at the radio, it looks like Lake Arrowhead got a good watering. I’m not sure about the other lakes. The North Central Texas Simplex Net will begin at 8:00 PM tonight on 146.580 MHz. You’ll need a good outside antenna to monitor them on your scanner radio. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 4:55 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 83.6% Kemp: 97.6% Kickapoo: 90.7%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 91.0% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (87.15%) to determine drought stage.
--- 4:56 AM - Someone issued a National Weather Service update on the 146.940 MHz repeater, but I had trouble copying it. The signal was scratchy, and the volume was very low. On the radar, most of the storm has passed over Wichita Falls, so I guess there is no need to be alarmed.
--- 5:04 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 11,488 Megawatts.
--- 5:10 AM - It was 1977 at the Presidio of San Francisco. I was standing in front of the Platoon Sergeant’s desk. Beside me stood a member of my squad who was being reprimanded for breaking a “jeep” windshield. When he thought he’d heard enough, he said, “Come on, Sarge, you don’t have to make a federal case out of it.” I nudged him and said, “It is a federal case.”
--- 5:15 AM - A few years ago, I heard a female trucker chatting with some male truckers on CB Radio Channel 19 as they passed through town. The woman said she worked for Kock's or Koch's Trucking. I'm not sure of the spelling, but I'm sure of the sound of the name because she took great delight in repeating “I drive for Kock's" and then laughing. The men laughed, too.
--- 6:05 AM - In the news - (Texoma's Home Page) - Lawton Public Library hosts Obituary writing workshop, Revitalization efforts at District 1 town hall, Florida man accused of stalking in Wichita Falls, Community invited to ribbon cutting of WF habilitation, Bicycle advisory board to improve cycling experience.
--- 6:40 AM - Since I made four Amateur (ham) Radio CW (Morse code) contacts yesterday, I'll start this morning with a little CB Radio, thunderstorm static crashes included at no extra charge. The band is otherwise quiet (no skip shooters), so I'll sit on Channel 19 for a while.
--- 7:00 AM - From the Texas Department of Public Safety - "Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was attempting to conduct a traffic stop along US-287 near Childress, around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, causing his patrol unit to collide with the vehicle. Trooper Romero died on scene. The crash remains under investigation."

--- 11:00 AM - George Carlin: If you walk around the mall with a handheld radio hanging on your belt, you’re a handi-nerd. If you’re also wearing a call sign hat, oooh, you’re a real handi-nerd! Okay, George Carlin didn’t say that, but a local “ham”, now a silent key (deceased), did. But, according to legend, George Carlin did say this: The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the asshole. If you walk into a Starbucks and order a "decaf grande half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one Sweet-n'-Low and one NutraSweet," ooh, you're a huge asshole.
--- 12:15 PM - In the August 1965 issue of S9 Magazine, there is a story about Congressman Frank Bow's House Resolution, which asks the FCC to reconsider the bad idea of prohibiting "hobby-type" communications on the CB Radio. The Congressman says that too many users have spent a lot of money on radios and were never made sufficiently clear about this prohibition before they bought into the service. I'm not sure when the FCC backed off or if they ever did officially, but we all know it's certainly a hobby now!
--- 2:54 PM - I contacted a station in Beaver Pond State Forest (US-5116) in New York on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
--- 7:42 PM - I contacted a station in Cherry Springs State Park (US-1340) in Pennsylvania on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
